eNews Term 3 Issue 1

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend and managed to spend some quality time with family and friends. The children were refreshed and eager to resume their learning when they returned to classes on Wednesday.

School Transport - School Buses & Car Park Restrictions

Our PTA Committee have been engaging with ESF Facilities staff in tendering for a school bus provider commencing next year. I am delighted to report that the process has been completed and the finishing touches are being applied to the routes. The full schedule will be ready to be shared with all parents within the next two weeks. We are working towards a comprehensive network of school and shuttle buses which we hope will serve to meet the needs of all our families. We have also worked with the bus operator to keep costs at a reasonable level.

I would like to urge you to please make use of the bus network in order that we may reduce our reliance on transporting children to and from school by private car.

Further to site inspections by the Land’s Department in March and April this year, ESF have been instructed to ensure full compliance of the lease for the Sha Tin site. As such the number of car parking spaces available for use has been reduced to 19.

Please be aware that our security team cannot allow additional cars onto the site to ensure we remain compliant at all times. Please make particular note of this limited availability during parent teacher conferences and during student performance evenings where previous practice has been to allow many cars onto the site to alleviate parking congestion in the neighbourhood.

Enforcement of this may be especially challenging for our security team. Please be understanding in your interactions with them as they are simply during their duty in managing appropriate car numbers on site. Your support as always is much appreciated.

Year 6 PYP Exhibition

Congratulations to our Year 6 students on a very successful Exhibition last Thursday evening. The children showcased their learning admirably and the event was a true culmination and celebration of their time at SJS.

I was most impressed by the passion and knowledge of the presenters, the confidence shown in explaining ideas to an audience of adults and by the sheer enjoyment evident.

In addition to the efforts of the students, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the teachers. The Year 6 team of course, but also the large number of teachers from across the school who gave of their time to support in mentoring roles. Thank you also to the parents who came along to support their children.

Year 2 Learning Journey

The Year 2 children are excitedly taking their parents on a journey of their learning, as I type this newsletter.
